Film is enjoying a renaissance but it needs to be carefully scanned to create a quality digital file. Using film and scanning provides a different, much slower, more considered pathway to creating an image.

We now have available to hire our Imacon Flextight 848 Virtual Drum scanner. There is a dedicated private area within our Town House. The scanner comes with a MacBook pro running Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6 and Hasselblad FlexColor software. This is coupled to a 27inch BenQ calibrated monitor.

Holders are available for scanning strips of 6 35mm frames, individual 35mm frames, strips of 120 film, individual frames of 6×4.5, 6×6, 6×7, as well as for scanning 5×4 film. The Imacon scanner does not take mounted 35mm slides.

This scanner can scan transparencies and negatives.

It is possible to scan into .FFF format which is the Imacon/Hasselblad Raw file format. Photoshop no longer supports this format so the files needed to be opened up again in FlexColor once scanned and saved as a .Tiff file. This provides a very high resolution file which retains all the available detail in the original. This can be opened in Photoshop and any adjustments to colour/tone & sharpness made there.

Alternatively we suggest a plug in for Lightroom called Negative Lab Pro. Scan with our Flextight scanner in .FFF with no adjustments for a pure full tonal range 16 bit Negative file. Rename the .FFF file to .TIFF and import into Lightroom. The Negative Lab Pro plugin will convert the file into a beautiful positive ready for fine tuning.
